Tips to keep a balanced pH
Avoid harsh soaps
Regular soaps have a high pH and using them to clean the vaginal area can cause a pH disturbance. An alternative to avoiding harsh soaps is to clean your intimate area with lukewarm water and a pH-balanced cleanser like Lemisol. Never use soap inside the vagina. This will help you maintain a stable vaginal pH.
Avoid vaginal douching
Avoid cleaning the vagina using solutions that contain vinegar or baking soda. These solutions claim to reduce vaginal odor but can actually make it worse. This is because they destroy the beneficial bacteria, disturb the vaginal pH, and can make you more prone to infections.
Take prebiotics
Prebiotic supplements help restore the body’s natural bacteria levels. Some foods also contain prebiotics, including yogurt, miso, and kombucha.
Change tampons regularly
Leaving a tampon in for too long can increase vaginal pH, since blood pH is slightly basic. Also, changing tampons frequently reduces the risk of bacterial infections, including toxic shock syndrome (TSS).
